Canadian officials are attempting to free a Quebec woman from custody in Iran. Zahra Kazemi, 54, was working as a freelance photographer in Iran when she allegedly snapped a photo of a prison in Iran. She was arrested and allegedly beaten into a coma some time in June.

Because Kazemi is also an Iranian citizen, foreign affairs has little authority to gain access to her. Although Canadian consular officials have been allowed to see Kazemi, they could only see her through a window, making it difficult to gage her condition. The Department of Foreign Affairs has formally asked Iranian authorities to investigate.
